CANADA CHILD TAX BENEFIT
Resource: Monthly non-taxable payment to help families with the cost of raising children. Amount of payment is based on your family’s income.
How to Access It: If you are the parent of a newborn, complete the birth registration package given to you where you deliver your baby or by using the Automated Benefits Application (ABA) service found on their website.

CENTRE FLAVIE-LAURENT CENTRE INC.
Resource: Free furniture, appliances, household items and clothing to people receiving Income Assistance.
How to Access It: To request an item(s), you must come into the Centre at at 450 Provencher Boulevard and complete a registration form. You will need your medical number and all employment income assistance information (if applicable) with you. They will do their best to help you acquire the items you need. If you are approved to receive items and you find things that you require you must take these items with you the same day that you are at the Centre. They can also deliver the items you have selected to your home for a $25 delivery charge.

EMPLOYMENT AND INCOME ASSISTANCE
Resource: Financial help to Manitobans who have no other way to support themselves or their families. For people who are able to work, EIA will help them go back to work by providing supports to employment.
How to Access It: To make an appointment, or to find the EIA office that you should go to, please call 948-4000 if you are in Winnipeg or 1-877-812-0014 (toll free) if you are outside of Winnipeg.

FAMILIES HELPING FAMILIES
Resource:
Hand-me-down baby and kids clothing and gear.
How to Access It: Join their Facebook page and post your request or browse donations. Most offers of items require you pick the item up from the person offering them.

FORT GARRY WOMEN’S RESOURCE CENTRE
Resource: Free clothing for women and children.

MANITOBA CHILD BENEFIT
Resource:
Low-income families (not on Employment and Income Assistance) may be eligible for up to $420 tax free each year for every child.
How to Access It: To apply visit their website to download an application and then fill it out and mail it in.

MANITOBA PRENATAL BENEFIT (HEALTHY BABY PROGRAM)
Resource
: Monthly payment, based on your income, starting in your second trimester of pregnancy, continuing until your due date.
How to Access It If you are pregnant, live in Manitoba and have a net family income of less than $32,000 a year, you may be able to receive the Manitoba Prenatal Benefit. If you are approved for the benefit, you can start to receive monthly cheques in your second trimester of pregnancy until the month your baby is due. The amount you will receive is based on your income. You could get between $10.00 to $81.41 a month. To apply for benefits, you need to fill out an application form. An application form can be downloaded from their website, picked up in medical offices, community agencies, and government offices, or can be obtained from the Healthy Child Manitoba Office.

NORTH END WOMEN’S CENTRE INC.
Resource:
A second hand store, The Up Shoppe, that offers items such as clothing, accessories, toys and household items at extremely low prices. Also offers an employment program and volunteer opportunities for women who face multiple barriers.

THE SWAPPING NETWORK
Resource: Maternity/Baby/Toddler/Preschool/Kids Clothing, Toys and Baby Supplies How to Access It: Donate your gently used and freshly laundered kid’s clothing from newborn to size/age 12 as well as any toys, baby needs and maternity wear to The Swapping Network. Then attend one of their swaps, which happen once in the spring and once in the fall and trade your items for whatever you or your child/ren need.

WEST CENTRAL WOMEN’S RESOURCE CENTRE
Resource: Free gently used women’s, children’s and men’s clothing as well as small household items.

Resource: Various baby carriers available to rent (suggested donation of $5 a month) and knowledgeable volunteers to teach you how to use them.
How to Access It: Group meetings are once a month on the 3rd Friday at Wolseley Family Place, 691 Wolseley, from 10am to noon. They also have an online forum

Resource: Low-cost or trade items of clothing, seasonal outerwear and footwear for adults and infants and children sells bags of clothing for $1.
How to Access It: Shop their Clothing Deport at 691 Wolseley (lower level). One shopping bag costs $1.00 One garbage bag is $2.00. Trade a bag for a bag.

WOMEN’S HOSPITAL BREASTFEEDING SERVICE
Resource: Free breastfeeding support for families from experienced nurses/lactation consultants.
How to Access It: Every Thursday from 1pm-3pm go to the basement of Women’s Hospital- Room WR117, 735 Notre Dame Ave. for their Breastfeeding Clinic. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday phone 204-787-1166 to book an appointment for hands-on breastfeeding help.
